  45. I am currently in the market for a Dual-Band (VHF/UHF) mobile
  46. rig for a vehicle.  I would like >=50 watts on VHF as well as 
  47. cross band repeat capability and the ability to change said
  48. frequencies remotely.  Any recomendations?  I am partial to 
  49. Yaesu (love my FT-530!) but will consider anything that foots
  50. the bill.

  52. Also, are there any other features that are worth thinking 
  53. about?  From what I can tell, all they major manufacturers
  54. seem to offer very similar products.  Does any one radio
  55. stand out as being significantly more "feature laden"?

  103. It is a very nice radio.  It has a good receiver with MDS of -141dbm 
  104. and DR of 125db on the 20m band. It is a very compact rig.  
  105. I think that it is a better buy at $450 than some of the low end hf rigs
  106. on the market now.  Many options such as 270Hz filter, keyer etc 
  107. (other than 500Hz filter and internal ps) are still available from dealers.

  109. I owned one for a few months. I upgraded to a Kenwood TS850s. I know of 
  110. few hams who still use one and like it.

  125. The Icom 740 was one of the last "ham bands only" rigs that Icom offered during
  126. the mid 70's. It was the predicessor to the IC-745 (which was the same basic
  127. rig but with a general coverage receiver installed). The rig I have is loaded
  128. with all the options, and I like it a lot, especially the filtering and the
  129. PBT/IF shift. The rig I have also has the internal power supply installed which
  130. makes it one neat package. I've had a lot of the other rigs on the market on
  131. and off, and think that it's a good one, the only thing(s) that it doesn't have
  132. available are AM operation, and memories, but overall, I think it's a real good
  133. rig for general operating, DX'ing and contesting. One other thing you should
  134. know is that the SWR protection circuit does roll back the power pretty quickly
  135. if the SWR gets much above 1:5/1, so you may want to keep a tuner in line with
  136. the rig.
